Below please find a round-up of resources we would like to share. We will continue to add to this list as more resources are identified.

Here is a form to submit more resources you would like to request to be added to this directory. One sentence descriptions of the cause/organization are greatly appreciated if you are able to provide that.

NASHVILLE-BASED RESOURCES

Black Lives Matter - Nashville: The Nashville #BlackLivesMatter chapter, an organization working for a world where Black lives are no longer systematically and intentionally targeted for demise

Free Hearts: a Tennessee state-wide organization led by formerly incarcerated women that provides support, education, and advocacy in organizing families impacted by incarceration, with the ultimate goals of reuniting families and keeping families together.

Gideon’s Army: The only local organization in Nashville that focuses solely on dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline through social activism by children in the prison pipeline, their families, and their community.

Nashville Community Bail Fund: The Nashville Community Bail Fund frees low-income persons from jail, connects with their loved ones, and works to end wealth-based detention through community partnerships.

Nashville Economic Justice Alliance envisions a world in which all Nashville residents are guaranteed the economic resources they need in order to live healthy, happy, productive lives.

The Nashville People’s Budget Coalition: An organization dedicated to building a Nashville where public safety includes communities with fully funded education, access to housing and health care, and freedom from policing and jails. 

Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Nashville: SURJ Nashville, a chapter of the national Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) network, is a group of individuals organizing white people for racial justice in Middle Tennessee.

Tennessee Organizing for Power Statewide is a coalition of over 40 justice-oriented and grassroots groups located across the state.

Walk With Me (Shawn Dromgoole): A local movement in the 12 South neighborhood started by an African-American resident requesting his neighbors walk with him because he no longer felt safe to do so alone. After making national headlines, he is now raising money to walk in cities across the country.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

(Google Doc) Anti-Racism Resources for White People: A google doc that compiles links to books, podcasts, articles, videos and other resources to help white allies deepen our anti-racism work.

The Antiracist Research & Policy Center (ARPC): Works with visionary philanthropists and foundations to fund teams of scholars, policymakers, journalists, and advocates to examine racial problems anew, innovate and broadcast practical policy solutions, and work with policymakers to implement them. 

Annuity.org :Closing the racial wealth gap isn’t a simple fix. But many experts say education and financial literacy can help. We identify the impact this knowledge gap has on the African American community — and explore how Black educators and financial advisors are working to close it.

Campaign Zero: A comprehensive platform of research based policy solutions to end Police Brutality in America

Fingerprints for Success: Women of color in the workplace: The persistent obstacles and how you can rise to meet them.

Obama.org: Helpful resource with a various links to get informed, take action, & get engaged

Southern Poverty Law Center: The SPLC is dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy, the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality.

ORGANIZATIONS TO SUPPORT AND/OR DONATE TO

Black Lives Matter LA: This group is at the forefront of organizing the current protests in LA.

The Black Visions Collective: A Black, trans, and queer-helmed organization in Minnesota, Black Visions Collective has been working to “pursue our commitment to dismantling systems of oppression and violence” since 2017. Right now, that means delivering supplies and support on the ground. 

Black Youth Project: Dedicated to improving the lived experiences of Black people (with a focus on Black youth) - activities include community organizing, voter mobilization, and other social justice campaigns focused on black, feminist, and queer issues.

Color of Change: Color of Change is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, they have created a online force to move and hold accountable decision makers in corporations and government to create a less hostile world for Black People in America.

Donate Your Wage: A campaign inviting you to donate your day's wage from Black Out Tuesday to organizations fighting racial injustice and anti-racism.

Equal Justice Initiative: The Equal Justice Initiative is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.

Know Your Rights Camp: Colin Kaepernick’s campaign to raise awareness on self-empowerment & interacting with law enforcement 

(Google Doc) LA Black-Owned Restaurants

The Loveland Foundation: Organization started by activist Rachel Cargle that focuses on providing Black women and girls with access to therapy and mental health care.

Minnesota Freedom Fund: The Minnesota Freedom Fund pays criminal bail and immigration bond for those who cannot afford to as we seek to end discriminatory, coercive, and oppressive jailing.

(Google Doc) NY Black-Owned Restaurants

Official George Floyd Memorial Fund: This fund is established to cover funeral and burial expenses, mental and grief counseling, lodging and travel for all court proceedings, and to assist our family in the days to come as we continue to seek justice for George. A portion of these funds will also go to the Estate of George Floyd for the benefit and care of his children and their educational fund.

Racial Justice Network: A UK-based network of individuals, communities and organisations working together to end racial injustice and address legacies of colonialism

Reclaim The Block: A Minneapolis based organization calling for a distribution of funds to uplift community (schools, houses, etc) rather than pouring money into police budget

Reform LA Jails: An organization campaigning to end mass incarceration, and build a system of community based care and services that works for ALL of Los Angeles County.

She Safe, We Safe: A transformative movement campaign led by BYP100 to put an end to the different forms of gender violence that Black women, girls, femmes and gender non-conforming people face everyday.

#JusticeForBre: Demand that the law enforcement responsible for Breonna Taylor’s death be held accountable.

#JusticeForFloyd from Color of Change: Demand the officers who killed George Floyd are charged with murder.
